What are the benefits of installing a suspended ceiling?

Suspended ceilings Suspended ceilings have so many advantages, it is little wonder that many businesses and organisations choose to install them.

They can be used to improve the appearance of a work space, to reduce heating costs and to provide soundproofing. They can also increase fire resistance between floors, positively affect the way light moves through an interior and conceal utilitarian, but often unattractive, features, such as air conditioning ducts.

For organisations that must consider moisture-levels and hygiene, ceiling tiles can be obtained with anti-microbial or humidity-resistant properties. On top of all these positive features, suspended ceilings are simple to install and can make it easier for essential maintenance to be carried out.

Suspended ceilings are a convenient choice

Suspended ceiling installation is simpler than building traditional ceilings. All that is required is a metal grid, which is fixed to hang from the original ceiling. Tiles are then inserted into the grid to form the new ceiling, but these remain easy to remove.

This means that any maintenance work that requires access to the space above the ceiling can easily be carried out. Workers can quickly locate wires or pipes concealed above the tiles, instead of having to break through a layer of plasterboard to reach them.

A suspended ceiling will usually decrease the amount of noise that is detectable from the floor above, creating a more peaceful working environment. In buildings where activities on an upper floor are particularly noisy, special ceiling tiles with soundproofing can be obtained, and as a further measure, material with noise insulating properties can be placed in the space above the tiles.

To reduce the risk of fires between floors, all suspended ceiling tiles are fireproof to some extent, but there are also some available that will form a substantial fire-break to prevent the spread of a blaze for up to one hour. This effect can be strengthened by the addition of fire resistant material into the ceiling space.

Whenever a suspended ceiling is installed, the reduction in vertical roof height should translate into a lowering of energy costs, as the total space to heat becomes much smaller. Adding thermal insulation above the suspended ceiling can reduce heat loss even further.

Some of the best looking ceilings are suspended ceilings

In buildings where the roof height varies, a suspended ceiling can even out differences to create one smooth ceiling expanse. There are often pipes and cables running around the upper regions of tall interiors, which can be unsightly. A suspended ceiling offers a way of concealing such eyesores.

In dark shadowy buildings, reflective ceiling tiles can help to bounce light around. Tiles are also available in many different textures and finishes that can transform an ugly ceiling into something more appealing. There are even a number of lighting options that have been specially created to fit into a suspended ceiling system. This means that it should be easy to find a ceiling that will enhance not only the amount of light but also the visual appeal inside your building.
