The installation of a mezzanine flooring mezzanine flooring level is just one of a number of major internal changes proposed for a church in Somerset, which will increase the versatility of the building to meet the changing needs of the community.

The Anglian Holy Trinity Church in Frome was designed and built in 1837-38 by Henry Goodridge, an architect of some renown in the Bath area. A series of 12 exquisite stained glass windows, made by William Morrris from the paintings of the pre-Raphaelite artist Sir Edward Burne-Jones, were added later and remain a huge visitor attraction.

In 2004, the Trinity Hall was renovated and is now used every day for playgroups, community groups, parties and wedding receptions.

The total cost of the renovations is estimated to be £750,000 and will be completed in phases. The first priorities are completely new lighting and heating systems, new seats and redecoration throughout at a cost of £250,000, of which £178,000 has been raised by the Transforming Trinity campaign, which was launched last year.

The plans for the renovations are presently before the Diocesan Advisory Committee, which is expected to make a final decision in September when, subject to the funds being available, the work can commence.

The mezzanine flooring proposed for the Frome church has been planned specifically with the windows in mind, with several balconies on the stairway so that visitors can have a closer view of the stunning design and workmanship of the stained glass they as pass.
