Playtime on the mezzanine floor

Mothercare’s flagship store in north London has been completely refurbished, with the mezzanine flooring mezzanine flooring level being transformed into a colourful cornucopia of soft toys, books, and an oversized Wendy House, with directions to different areas illustrated by large 3D pictures around the walls. A professional photography studio is also based on the mezzanine floor, enabling parents to have their child’s photograph taken in a child-centred environment.

Founded in the 1960s, Mothercare has become an established name on the high street, having merged with and taken over several other businesses during the ensuing years.

Catering for babies and children up to age eight, the revamped store offers a Costa franchise where parents can relax with a cup of coffee while their children play in a safe environment. As part of the upgrade, a room has been created on the ground floor which can be hired by groups for lectures or events, with a baby-changing and comfortable discreet sitting area for nursing mothers.

The re-decoration of the 30,000 sq ft store has resulted in a bright and airy space, wide walkways to accommodate prams and buggies, and room sets painted in pastel colours to demonstrate the wide range of nursery furniture.

A large selection of prams and buggies, with easy access for larger items directly out to the car park, are accommodated under the mezzanine flooring level. The transformed space is one of the most attractive and impressive features in the revamped Edmonton branch, having a wide curved balcony with open banisters allowing a clear view across the entire store and over both levels.
