New distillery and office complex set for Glasgow

A new whisky distillery could be coming to the heart of Glasgow, after plans were submitted to build a £10 million facility.

If built, the complex will include state of the art offices and a visitor centre. It will also be the first distillery located in Glasgow’s city centre for over a century.

The plans are to completely refurbish the Pump House, an iconic building on the banks of the River Clyde. Sat between the Hydro Arena and the Riverside Museum, there are hopes that it will further boost the regeneration of the area and propel higher levels of tourism.

Over recent years, there has been a concerted effort by businesses and Glasgow City Council to boost tourist numbers.

The Pump House project is indicative of this, with a number of industry experts leading the development plans.

There will be a bar, cafe, retail space and a well-equipped office. The fit out will likely include the latest in best practice office design, to include partitions and suspended ceilings suspended ceilings for duct and pipework. There will also be tasting rooms attached to the visitor centre.

The group behind the project is confident of securing planning permission, and has said that once granted, construction works will get under way – employing about 300 people, largely from the local area.

If planning permission is granted, work will commence on the first stage of the project immediately, with the second phase expected to be finished in two years’ time.
