Just as Andy Murray was Grand Slam singles champion in the US Open final – the first British man to hold the title since Fred Perry in 1936 – his mother was making a move of her own – into a luxury new home offering substantial accommodation, including an en-suite bedroom on a mezzanine flooring mezzanine flooring level.

The ground floor of Khyber House in the historic spa town of Bridge of Allan boasts a spectacular drawing room with an open fire and large windows overlooking the grounds, while the dining room has doors and steps down into the garden. Another three large reception rooms and a combined kitchen and breakfast room with windows on two sides complete the downstairs accommodation.

The exterior of the 1930s traditional Scottish built property has impressive bow windows and a conical shaped roof and is set in around half an acre of mature grounds, which feature a two-tier lawn, flower beds and several large established pine and holly trees. The various outbuildings include a double garage with remote-controlled electric doors.

The upstairs of the property has a family bathroom, four double bedrooms including the bedroom on the mezzanine floor, an en-suite master bedroom with stunning views over Allan Glen and a further two rooms in the attic.

Unlike many mezzanine floors which are installed as part of a refurbishment of a property to maximise the internal space, the bedroom on the mezzanine floor of Khyber House is an original and very striking feature of the design.
