A jeweller in Leeds has refurbished and upgraded its store with the construction of a workshop on a new mezzanine flooring mezzanine flooring level. The complete renovation of the premises has been designed to the highest standard for use by its new client, the prestigious Swiss watchmaker Rolex.

The family owned store of Prestons, which was founded in Bolton 150 years ago, has built its reputation on quality and service and has operated from the corner of Deansgate in Leeds since 1869, with a further boutique store in Wilmslow.

Outlets used by Rolex must reflect the reputation of the high profile firm whose watches retail from £5,000. The most expensive transaction took place in 2003 when a prototype Oyster Cosmograph ‘Daytona’ manufactured in 1979 was sold for £210,000 at Sotheby’s. The Rolex brand has an increasing share of the luxury watch market with sales of £3.3bn in 2010.

The newly renovated shop is the only standalone store used by Rolex in the UK other than Bond Street and Knightsbridge in London and is protected by bullet proof windows and a sophisticated alarm system.

At a cost of £800,000, the building work has transformed the shop into a huge lavish display case for exquisite timepieces, with a glass staircase leading up from the ground floor entrance hall.

A light and airy bar has been installed on the second floor, where prospective purchasers can drink champagne while the workshop on the third floor mezzanine flooring level will be open to public view.
