A super Devon property has recently come onto the market with a price tag of around £600,000.

The three-bedroom detached cottage and a separate two-bedroom barn conversion, complete with a mezzanine flooring mezzanine flooring level, was the country home of North Devon MP and former Liberal leader Jeremy Thorpe in the 1960s and ’70s.

Situated around six miles from the market town of Barnstaple and about seven miles from South Molton, the 16th century property in Cobbaton has around 1.5 acres of landscaped gardens and is completely unoverlooked by any neighbouring properties.

Inside the cottage, many of the original features have been retained, featuring an inglenook fireplace in the living room which also has French windows overlooking the garden. Also on the ground floor are a large kitchen/breakfast room complete with bread oven, a separate dining room and a utility room. Upstairs, the master bedroom has exposed beams and windows overlooking both front and back gardens. All three bedrooms have oak floors.

The converted barn provides additional accommodation, with two bedrooms upstairs and a 29 feet long living area which boasts a mezzanine flooring level at one end, complete with exposed beams on the vaulted ceiling.

The mezzanine floor has been put to a variety of uses throughout the years, one of which has been as a music studio and an office. The construction of the mezzanine flooring level is such that it can easily be adapted to a number of different uses, depending on individual requirements.
